AVS Decision Tool

Four questions to a working diagnosis. Timing, trigger, HINTS pattern, hearing — the tool walks the same logic as the chapter and surfaces the next step and the disposition recommendation for the case in front of you.

The tool is local-state only; nothing is uploaded. Use it as a thinking aid in the cubicle, or as a teaching artefact for a small-group discussion. Reset at any time.

AVS Decision Tool

1
1 · Timing
How long has this episode lasted?

How it works

  • Timing partitions the case into brief / episodic / sustained.
  • Trigger further narrows brief and episodic into triggered (BPPV, orthostatic) vs spontaneous (TIA, migraine).
  • HINTS separates AVS into peripheral, central, or indeterminate.
  • Hearing escalates AVS-peripheral with hearing loss into the AICA red flag.
  • The verdict reports the working diagnosis, the reasoning, the next step, and a disposition with urgency colour.

The tool encodes the same evidence-based pathways as the chapter pages. It is an educational instrument, not a clinical decision aid for direct patient use. Always verify against local protocols and obtain expert consultation.
